I launched a new section aptly titled ‘Journal Prompts’, a space for inquiry that you can explore on your own pages. Each prompt will have a short story and three (3) journal prompts to explore on your own. Some days I will share them and other days guest writers will step in with a story and prompts.
Take what you need. Always optional.
Short story:
My daughter once told me on a hike that she can speak to the trees. As if she is some modern day Lorax in kid form, I smiled at her in awe as she pulled off the path and leaned in closer against the bark of a tree and listened for what they had to say to her. With nothing to prove to me but because she wanted to. Ear to bark, she waited for a moment silently and smiled wide. She then removed her ear and leaned in for a hug, her pudgy arms wrapping around a small section of a large, scratchy trunk. I curiously asked, “what did the tree say?”. She said that it told her that it loved her. And that was all.
We hiked on. And I believed her.
What is my current relationship with nature?
Do I see nature as a hobby or a part of my being?
Go outside. Close your eyes.
Now ask: Do the I breathe the trees or do the trees breathe me?
Thoughts?
Bonus prompt after being outside:
Do I see nature as a hobby or a part of my being?
