It was something about the concise-ness of expression that called to me amidst the barrage of (over)thoughts in my brain. The 5, the 7 and then the 5 again, as if the counting and the three lines created just enough math to filter a thought through a formula.
“A traditional Japanese haiku is a three-line poem with seventeen syllables, written in a 5/7/5 syllable count. Often focusing on images from nature, haiku emphasizes simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression”. (poets.org)
You heave heard it a thousand times, you get the best ideas in the shower. A potent mix of alpha brain waves, dopamine and de-focus (can’t touch the phone in the shower) creates a delicious environment for my haiku writing in the shower. And the waterproof post it notes suctioned to the acrylic tile help, too.
Here is my first collection to share from aqua post it notes to print, a la volume one:
___
Hello Autumn
Fall in the crisp air.
A reminder to slow down,
Nature shows us how.
Freya says Hi
The brain develops,
She says hello with a wave.
Time is a teacher.
Money Wounds
You run the money
or the money runs you, dear.
So, know your numbers.
Adult Friendship
To host a wine club,
What if no one wants to join?
But what if they do?
Happy Birthday Chris, my love
I heard you were here.
So I chose to make my way
to Earth at this time.
That Baked Good Good
Pull an espresso,
I will bake fresh biscotti.
Nourished with love.
(Meta)Morphosis
Time to leave the ‘gram.
It is not the place for me.
Will I still succeed?
Maine in Wintertime
Red goose down jacket,
Walking the cold ocean’s edge,
She still ebbs and flows.

ACTION:
Share a haiku in the comments and let us start an Optional Optimism reader collection.
I’m off the gram too.
Solo trips to the bathroom.
Nervous system calm.
Motherhood is here
Delicious exhaustion reigns
I am too newborn.
