Haiku Collection #15
a syllabic smattering.
One of my children lies next to me fighting off some veracious virus. She said she just wanted to be next to me - even though her room has the fan, humidifier, air purifier and all that garb that gives me any inkling that I have control. Every few minutes I move a cool washcloth to provide comfort and nudge a water bottle her way.
It is in these moments, the syllabic and structural support of haiku has come in handy. When stringing together actual sentences feels impossible, haiku reaches out a hand and says, I’m here.
It also feels like a creative portal to …. control. The contrived syllables, the container in three lines, the sounding out and search for synonyms.
For the control freaks in the room, can I offer you a haiku?
